Privacy Policy
SOBERX was built by someone in recovery. We treat your data with the same care we would want for ourselves. We do not sell your personal data. We never will.

3. How We Use Your Data
- To provide and personalise the SOBERX app experience
- To power your sobriety counter, milestones, and recovery tracking
- To generate your weekly recovery letter and HAL AI responses (see Section 5)
- To send you notifications you have opted into (daily check-ins, milestone alerts)
- To improve the app based on how it is used
- To respond to your support requests
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database platform with row-level security — meaning your data is only accessible to your account. Supabase stores data in the European Union.
Some data (such as your sobriety date and display name) is also cached locally on your device using encrypted storage to allow the app to work offline and load quickly.
We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit (TLS) and at rest.
5. HAL AI — Third-Party AI Service
HAL 2.0, our AI recovery companion, is powered by Claude, an AI model created by Anthropic, PBC (a third-party AI service based in the United States).
What data is sent to Anthropic
When you use HAL, the following information is included in your conversation and sent to Anthropic's API to generate HAL's response:
- Your messages to HAL
- Your current days sober (e.g. "Day 47")
- Your display name (first name only, if provided)
- Context about whether you are in relapse recovery mode
What is NOT sent to Anthropic
- Your email address
- Your journal entries
- Your mood history
- Your photos
- Your reasons for getting sober
- Any other personal recovery data beyond what is listed above
Anthropic's data practices
Anthropic may process data sent to their API in accordance with their own privacy policy, available at anthropic.com/privacy. By using HAL, you consent to this data being sent to Anthropic for the purpose of generating AI responses.
Your HAL conversations are not used to train Anthropic's AI models under our current API agreement.
6. Weekly Recovery Letter
Your weekly letter is generated using HAL (powered by Anthropic's Claude). To write a personalised letter, the following data is included in the generation request sent to Anthropic:
- Your display name
- Your days sober and recovery week number
- Your mood average for the current and previous week
- Money saved this week and in total
- Any milestones reached this week
Generated letters are cached on your device and are not stored on our servers.
7. Community Feed
Posts you make in the SOBERX community feed are visible to other SOBERX users. Your display name and days sober at time of posting are attached to your posts. Do not include personally identifying information in community posts that you would not want others to see.
8. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the following service providers, solely to operate the app:
- Supabase — database and authentication
- Anthropic, PBC — AI responses for HAL and weekly letters (see Section 5)
- Apple Inc. — App Store distribution and payment processing
- Expo (EAS) — app build and delivery infrastructure
We may disclose your data if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request.
9. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and associated data
- Export your data in a portable format
- Object to processing of your data
- Withdraw consent at any time
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
To delete your account, go to Settings within the app or email us directly.
10. Data Retention
We retain your account and recovery data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.
11. Children
SOBERX is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or by email. Continued use of SOBERX after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
